Nature Morte
This project is a “Nature Morte” painting, meaning that as I painted the pumpkin, flower, and plant they continued to decay between sessions, so I returned repeatedly to record those changes. Over time the work accumulated layers of paint, each one covering traces of the objects’ former vitality as they slowly withered and broke down. The finished piece is an oil painting on canvas that preserves the passage of time and the gradual transformation of once-lively things into decay.
Repetition
This project is titled “Repetition,” in which I chose to paint a series of paint tubes. Most of the tubes display tones that progress from white through various grays to black, with the exception of a single tube. One tube deliberately breaks the monochrome pattern: it appears messy, curled, and clearly used, and I painted it a subtle purple so it feels distinct without clashing. Oil paint on canvas.
